VASTU SHASTRA

        Vastu Shastra has its origin centuries ago and some of its principles are available in various Vedas and scriptures and is believed to have been existed in oral tradition. Vastu Shastra means Building Science and deals with
1.Principles involved in selection of sites.
2.Configuration of plans, specifying orientation of rooms to cardinal directions.
3.Selection of materials used for building construction.
4.Dimensioning
      Through technological development, additional knowledge has been gained by us and the basic needs of the occupier have also changed. However, the common objectives of safety, comforts, elegance and economy are the prime considerations in the construction of a building.
     Standards have been formulated in respect of materials, workmanship and sizes of rooms and heights of building to be adopted for comfortable living utilizing the latest developments in building designs and construction techniques. Performance oriented codes have also been prepared which can be adopted for the use. It lays down minimum provision design to protect the safety of the building with regard to structural sufficiency, health aspects and fire hazards.
     Some of the aspects which have similarity between the old and modern principles have been furnished below.
     To decide on the type of foundation required, a compression test is conducted at the building site by today's modern Architects and Builders. Ascertaining soil density, this test, among others helps to determine safe bearing capacity of the soil and the foundation needed, its type, width and depth.
